PARTY YOUR #ARTOUT WHITE PAPER EDITION

5 December 2016

Durban, Joburg, Cape Town

whitepaperparty

Arterial Network South Africa (ANSA) is hosting the PARTY YOUR #ARTOUT: WHITE PAPER EDITON on Monday 5 December. #ArtOut is a regular event hosted by ANSA that brings artists and arts practitioners together to discuss, articulate and champion the role of the arts in our society. #ArtOut encourages everyone to speak your #ArtOut about key issues in the arts, and in society as a whole in a fun and social way.

The upcoming White Paper Edition is an urgent call to anyone interested in the arts to come and speak you #ArtOut about the White Paper, the new policy direction for the arts currently in drafting and consultation process. The White Paper is the first legal step to developing a policy for the arts and is very important for the future of the arts in South Africa. All South Africans have an opportunity to give their voice to what they think the White Paper should be and ANSA will be explaining how this can be done, and gaining your valuable insights into what we all should include in our submissions to the Department of Arts and Culture.

The #ArtOut Parties are fun and based on a potluck principle, where everyone is welcome and contributes something to the meal to share with others. It is a collaborative and collegial environment, with a cause!

Join us this Monday 5 December in Durban, Joburg or Cape Town:

Durban: 17:h5 @ KZNSA Gallery, 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood

Cape Town: 18h00 @ Artscape Theatre Centre, DF Malan Street, Foreshore

REVISED WHITE PAPER ON ARTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE

The Department of Arts and Culture has released a draft of the much-awaited new White Paper for public discussion, a policy framework for the cultural sector, including the creative industries, the heritage sector, the community arts and more. There have been a number of false starts since the current process was re-started. The current policy regime was forged in the heady days of the mid 1990s, and first came up for review more than a decade ago.

It is worth quoting at some length from the actual document as to the intention behind the new policy framework:

Arterial Network South Africa concluded its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 13 August 2016 by electing a new eight-member Executive Committee. I take this opportunity to introduce them here and to thank the outgoing Committee for their work over the last two years. The new Committee will elect its Chairperson and other office bearers at its first meeting.

May the youthful, energetic spirit they showed on Saturday set the tone for the work to come.

-- Valmont Layne, Secretary General
